Methodology
A source-first approach to carrier information.
Carrierfolio makes a bounded set of official motor-carrier source facts easier to search while preserving where they came from and what they do—and do not—mean.
What Carrierfolio is
Carrierfolio is an independent commercial information platform. It provides a clearer search and profile experience around selected official motor-carrier records. It does not make proprietary safety, trust, risk, or quality judgments.
Carrierfolio is an independent commercial platform and is not affiliated with FMCSA, DOT, or any government agency.
Current New Jersey scope
The current dataset includes each available row returned by the approved Company Census query whose physical-state field reports New Jersey (PHY_STATE = NJ) at the time of retrieval. Import pages are requested in ascending numeric USDOT order, making the acquisition rule reproducible.
This scope should not be interpreted as “every New Jersey trucking company.” Source coverage, reporting, timing, entity types, and the physical-state field all limit what the dataset represents.
Official source
Carrierfolio uses the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Company Census File, published through the U.S. Department of Transportation data service as dataset az4n-8mr2. Carrierfolio retrieves the approved fields through the dataset’s documented SODA interface without an FMCSA credential.
The source service currently does not provide Carrierfolio with an explicit license declaration. Carrierfolio therefore identifies the source and its limitations without claiming that the dataset is public domain.
Open the official dataset pageImport and refresh
An automated daily job checks source metadata, acquires the complete bounded New Jersey result in deterministic pages, validates the response, and replaces the current view only after quality checks pass. If acquisition or validation fails, the previous successful dataset remains available.
Each displayed profile records its source agency, dataset identity, source retrieval time, source record date when present, and Carrierfolio import time. Profiles also show when Carrierfolio first and most recently observed the record, and they list meaningful source-field changes only when distinct observations actually changed. A repeated import of identical facts is not treated as a change.
Carrierfolio history reflects observations collected by Carrierfolio and may not represent the full historical record before monitoring began.
Search, URLs, and derived values
Exact USDOT lookup canonicalizes a valid numeric identifier. Name search uses normalized copies of reported legal and DBA names so that capitalization and common spacing do not prevent a match. These search keys are platform-derived navigation aids; Carrierfolio does not replace the reported display names or infer a carrier judgment from them.
Carrier profile URLs use the current source-reported legal name as a descriptive slug plus the USDOT number, for example /carriers/acme-transport-1234567. The USDOT number remains the stable identity. Carrierfolio parses identity only from the final numeric USDOT segment; numeric legacy URLs, leading-zero variants, and stale or incorrect slugs redirect to the current canonical profile URL. If a legal name is not reported, the canonical route uses a neutral form such as /carriers/usdot-298202.
Discovery and transparent rankings
New Jersey discovery pages are navigation over current imported source facts. The two size lists order records whose source entity type includes Carrier (C) by either the reported POWER_UNITS field or reported TOTAL_DRIVERS field. Only positive reported values enter a top-50 list. Missing values remain missing and are not treated as zero; equal values are ordered by the lower canonical USDOT number.
A ranking position reflects only that one reported source field. Carrierfolio does not create a composite or proprietary score, and the order does not imply safety, quality, operating authority, insurance, compliance, productivity, approval, or recommendation. Discovery pages use the current successful import and can change after a later validated daily refresh.
City discovery groups source-reported physical-city values after trimming outer whitespace, collapsing repeated whitespace, and ignoring casing for navigation. Raw source values remain unchanged. A city group must contain at least 500 current New Jersey source records; punctuation variants are not speculatively merged, and stable hash suffixes prevent readable-slug collisions. Carrier-operation pages use only the exact documented A, B, and C source codes for records whose entity type includes Carrier (C). Raw classification-token pages are not currently published.
Status is not a safety conclusion
Company Census registration status, operating authority, insurance, inspections, violations, crashes, and official safety ratings are distinct concepts. The status shown on a profile preserves the Company Census source value. It does not verify authority or insurance, establish compliance, certify safety, or recommend a carrier.
Corrections
Carrierfolio can correct errors in its own import, processing, or display. It does not silently rewrite an official source claim. A source-origin discrepancy generally needs to be addressed with FMCSA and then reflected through a later successful refresh.
